About Us
Renovacion Conyugal was founded in 2001 by Miguel and Belisa Urbina, a couple who had worked for many years helping other couples in their native Puerto Rico. After moving to Georgia they realized the lack of support for Latino families in the state, and with the assistance of Colombian born catholic priest Fr. Hernan Quevedo started the first couple's program designed for Latino families and opened to any couple, married or not, regardless of religious creed.
The first "Taller de Parejas" (Couple's Workshop) took place in Marietta, Georgia, on March 31, 2001. At that time there was not a single program in Spanish geared towards Latino couples that could create an enriching and complete experience to help them improve their communication and increase their commitment to the relationship.
Many of these couples were also struggling with a lack of effective parenting skills. With the help Dr. Juan Jose Genovard, renowned psychologist and author of parenting books, Renovacion Conyugal developed a very successful parenting curriculum congruent with the core values of the couples' workshops. On March, 2002 the "Escuela Para Padres" program was first presented.

On April 2005, responding to a plea of the teenage sons and daughters of our volunteers, "Renovacion Juvenil" was born. The project helps Latino youth and their families have a better communication and relationship. It provides them with tools to prevent drug abuse, low self-esteem, participation in gangs, teen pregnancy and alcohol abuse while also helping them to adapt to the reality of living in a dual-culture. From the beginning, the program was prepared, led and presented by other Latino Teenagers and young adults creating excellent peer interaction and modeling.
Through the years we have introduced new services and programs as deemed necessary to keep meeting the demands and needs of the community that we serve. Support Groups for couples, Support Groups for Teenagers and "Plenitud Matrimonial" came on board on our first three years.
In 2009 "Taller de Familias Reconstituidas" (Blended Families Workshop) began and in 2010 "Taller de Padres e Hijos" (Teens and Parents Workshop) was presented for the first time. On 2010 also, a partnership with the American Cancer Society allowed us to start "Con Amor Aprendemos" (With Love We Learn). Renovacion Conyugal also serves as Cultural and Linguistic Proficiency Advisors for other organizations that want to better serve Latino youth and families.
A description of all programs is found on the "Programs" section of our website.
"Renovacion Conyugal" is constantly researching recognized curriculums, developing new material and establishing new programs to make sure that we are always assessing and meeting the needs of the Latino families that we strive to serve. So keep an eye on our new ventures!
